Hand Crafted and Individual

Wulffenstejn hardanger fiddles are made in the tradition of fine Norwegian craftsmen employing time-honored building techniques. Our instruments are not made on an assembly line but are individually hand-crafted.

Our fiddles are made using first quality tone woods. Backs, ribs and necks are made from highly figured red maple. Soundboards are crafted from artist grade Adirondack red spruce, tight grained and beautiful in appearance. Pegs, fingerboards and tail pieces are made from high quality ebony stock.

Every instrument is custom built and unique. Customers participate in the building process selecting the woods, stains, inlay patterns and rosign designs.

You may have to wait a few months for your instrument to be made, but then the experience of having an instrument hand made especially for you is worth the wait.

Each Wulffenstejn hardanger fiddle is a personalized hand crafted work of art. Customers participate in the building process by selecting the woods, decoration designs, inlay designs, and varnish colors. Prices will vary depending on the amount of decoration and inlay.

Using Top Quality Materials

Wulffenstejn hardanger fiddles include the following features:

Top wood. Fine grained red spruce
Back, neck, and ribs. Highly flamed maple.
Tailpiece. Ebony stock inlayed with mother of pearl, abalone and bone.
Nuts and saddle. White bone.
Edge decoration. Mother of pearl inlay.
Purfling. Double row inlayed on back and top plates.
Fingerboard. Ebony inlayed with mother of pearl and abalone
Tuning pegs. Ebony violin pegs or hand made pegs from ebony stock laminated with camel bone. Each instrument is decorated with detailed flower designs (rosing). Each Wulffenstejn instrument is a unique work of art.
